Does anyone know how to trick Canon MP470? litehouslvr  5/7/2008 1:52:38 PM InkGirl 5 posts Re: HP57 It is actually a fairly common thing for the color cartridges to have less refilling sucess...for one main reason.  There are three colors in one cartridge.  Black cartridges seldom fail when refilled properly.  Color cartridges you have to be more carefull with.  The main keys to refilling any cartridge that has a sponge in it, are the follow:  1. First things first, NEVER run the cartridge completely empty and NEVER let it sit empty.  Print heads have thousands of tiny jets in them, and they get extremely hot.  Ink going through them is what keeps them from burning up, but if you run a cartridge into the ground to the point it won't print anymore and then try to refill it, your working with a lost cause. 2. NEVER use alcohol to clean any part of the cartridge, it can strip the protective coating off the electronics and print head and cause them not to work.  3. Never touch the bronze area (print head and circuit board) with your fingers.  4. Use a good quality ink and never a universal ink.  All inks are very different, even within the manufacturers and if you use something that isn't made for the cartridge it will most likely cause problems when refilling.  5. Be sure to not over fill the cartridge.  Not all cartridges will leak if over filled, I have seen some simply not work, or print really light if they are over filled.  It's better to under-fill and fill more often that to over fill a cartridge.  6.  Keep the print head clean...dampen a soft paper towel and simply wipe the print head clean.  When the ink builds up on the print head the jets will get clogged, making it harder to refill with success.  7.  Have a soft tip baby bulb around.  You can get them at any drug store in the baby section.  (They are used to clean a baby's nose and what not)  Make sure to have a soft tip one though, cut a small amount off the end so the hole is a little bit bigger.  Then, if you have a color that is clogged, use the bulb to force air into the cartridge which then forces ink out the print head.  Be sure to put the print head on a paper towel first and you will need to cover one of the holes on the cartridge for certain colors (some colors have two holes instead of one) so the air doesn't just go back out the other hole.  You may have to force the air in a couple of time to get the ink to come out.  After a couple of times if it still doesn't come out, then the jets are so clogged that there isn't any hope.
