HP 1600 - Where to make the hole?

Hi,

I recently bought a HP Color LaserJet 1600 with a set of toner cartridges. Unfortunately the toner cartridges are running very low. I have scoured the Internet for information and have found conflicting advice. One site shows a very comprehensive set of pictures to strip down and refill the toner cartridges, whilst other indicate the melt and pour method - but I cannot find out exactly where to cut the access hole into the toner cartridge.

Has anyone refilled one of the Q600xA cartridges for the HP 1600/2600 printers?

Can anyone add a picture to the Forum archives?

Is there a template or set of measurements to indicate where to cut the hole?

Is it a strip and fill job?

Any help would be gratefully received as I will have to decide to buy replacement cartridges or tackle the refilling myself.

Regards,
Ron.

Re: HP 1600 - Where to make the hole?
Hi again,

After many hours searching the Internet I found a fantastic document at   http://www.uni-kit.com/pdf/tonerrefillinstructions.pdf   that answered my question to this forum. I  used the instructions for the HP 2600 Color Laserjet (Black, Cyan, Yellow or Magenta) - it is the same cartridge for both the 1600 and 2600! Emptying the waste toner and the remaining unused toner is a little messy but it is essential. The result was pleasing in cost terms.

However, the final result is a very, very light grey cast over the paper when using black - this is because the new toner is not 100% of the manufacturers original formula. To me though it is quite acceptable and I am pleased with the overall results. I was unable to make the new chips work, but I just did the usual frig of the control panel for the amount of printing that I do.

It document covers a wide range of printers and is well worth a visit. See the library of .pdf at http://www.uni-kit.com/pdf/ as it also covers inkjet cartridges for those who are interested. Good luck to you all.

Regards,
Ron.
